Short-Term Running Goals:

I want to keep a base of 50 or so miles a week this winter, and hit training hard again this spring.

First of all, Michelle Margetts started out as a totally sane, normal person and through the course of this summer has turned into a running maniac. We wanted to do 5 easy miles this morning, so she picked the 5 miles that has THE most hills (and steep ones, too!) to run. I wouldn't exactly call that an easy run. However, we didn't push it, and it felt like we were going really slow, but our overall average pace was 9:10. I worry, too, that we haven't done enough hills (since I have been avoiding them since Hobble Creek and my calves have been tight), but I think after today we are covered.

Yes, mild mannered Michelle has turned into a crazy person that runs lots of fast miles. I think it has rubbed off on you too.

You are a running maniac as well - 4:50 am on Saturday is a little insane. The really sad thing is that we were all okay with it and ready to run!

You will do fine, rest assured.

Guilty as charged, but you're right there with me Cheris. Notice my highest mpw was 55. What was yours? 75? It is so much more fun to be maniacal WITH you and our whole group.

I have to admit it has been fun to see all of you (should I include myself also?) become running maniacs this summer. Do we have Steve to thank for this? How did it happen? Hopefully it will all pay off in two weeks, then can we go back to a sane life?

Is it safe to bet that some of this insanity will carry over through the winter months? I would like to get at least 50 in a week if everyone is up to it.

Eric, I am totally up for that! I would love to keep my mileage at 50, then add more next spring. But to go lower than 50 over the winter seems like it would be starting all over again next year!

From Jody on Sun, Sep 21, 2008 at 12:29:51

I am in for the 50 miles per week during the winter. Too much hard work to lose it now and then have to start all over again!

From erico on Mon, Sep 22, 2008 at 03:04:41

If everyone is up to 50 I think it would be great. We'll have to pass it along to Peggy and Cheryl. I am sure we will have to do quite a bit on our own but it would sure beat trying to build up in the Spring.
