Met with the running group, and ran some speed work. All in all it was a tough run! We did about 3 miles to warm up, and about 1.5 to cool down, and all the miles in between were fast with recoveries.

8 miles easy, tried to go slow--it is always harder than I think!

Tried to warm up before the Riverton 10K, but didn't get much time after wrapping up all the registration stuff! Tried to do an 8-minute first mile, then progressively faster. However, I didn't get much faster! I just didn't have a lot of energy, I haven't been sleeping well, who knows why? But my time was 48:05, so my average was 7:50 and it is a tough course--very hilly. Last year I was in the 50 minute range, so that is improvement!

Michelle and I were going to do 12, but ran out of time! This is our "long run" of the week.

We did the Riverton 10K route and met at my house to start--there were about 16 of us, and it was very fun! Michelle and Julie and I did a progressive tempo. After a warm-up of three miles we did 2 miles at 8:30 then 2 miles at 8:00 (at least we tried! some were faster and some were slower by a little bit). Then we cooled down the last couple of miles. We plan to increase our miles that we do at 8-minute pace, since that is our goal pace for the marathon. However, I have my reservations that I can do that pace for the entire marathon!

Met at Michelle's house and tried to take it easy for our 8-mile loop.

Speed work at the track. Warm-up of 2 miles then 2 laps of speed changes. 6 800's with a 400 recovery in between. We did the first 2 at marathon pace, then half marathon pace, then we got all mixed up with our arithmetic and were trying to do 7:40, 7:30, 7:20, but ended up doing 7:20, 7:20 (I think!) then 7:00. Then we did 3 laps of fast 100's, and cooled down for one lap. I loved it--it's great to be at the track again!

Today we started through the Avenues and ran up City Creek a little, then down to Memory Grove and then back up through the Avenues. I really pushed it on the uphills, and got my heart rate up to 190! I also really wanted to throw up when we were done with the last hill. I think I need to push myself like that a little more, so it will be easier to push myself harder in races.

Ten mostly slow miles, a couple of miles we did close to 8:30 pace, but we were trying to take it easy after Monday's killer hill workout!

Progressive tempo run at Gardner Village trail. 2 miles warm-up (averaged 9 minute miles), then 2 miles at marathon pace plus 30 seconds (8.5 minute miles) then 4 miles at marathon pace (tried for 8 minute miles, but did a couple at about 8:06, one at 7:50, and one at 8:16, so they probably averaged to about 8 minute pace), then one more at 8.5, then one at almost 9 to cool down.

Felt like a good run, although I still have reservations about trying to run that fast for the whole marathon. I don't know if I will be at that point yet!

1st 3 miles my legs felt really tired, but the last 3 miles were OK. Just did slow miles, 10 minute pace.

Loved the 10K! My splits were: 6.37, 6.33, 7.11, 7.08, 7.02 and 7.24 for the last mile--that little bit of uphill was hard! But I felt great, and it was 4.5 minutes faster than the Riverton 10K I did July 4th! Love the downhill!

Probably ran too far today for a recover run after the 10K yesterday. I was more stiff after I finished!

Speed work at the track. I did 10 400's with a 400 recovery in between. I started them out in the 8 minute pace range, and ended at 6.30 (the last 4 were about 6.30 minute pace).

Ran about 2 miles with Drew later.

Ran 10.7 miles with the running group, as a progressive tempo run--20 minutes at a moderate pace, then 20 of a little harder, then 20 at goal pace (8 minute miles). Then we repeated that with 10 minute segments. Very fun!

When I got home, I ran 1.5 miles with Drew, about 11 minute average.
